So often, I hear people tell me, "I am not creative, I cannot craft". I instantly stop them and would usually say everyone is creative in one way or the other. Crafting is not just for children but for everyone. Crafting comes in different forms such as papercrafting, woodworking, cooking, arts, drawing, painting, baking, sewing, digital crafting, textile crafting, embroidery, leather crafting, knitting and crochet, pottery, etc. whichever one you do, you are sure to reap its mental benefits.
There are so many benefits derived from crafting. Crafting can help reduce stress and anxiety for both adults and children. They can help to lift mood and improve self confidence. Generally, it is a feel good or proud moment when you have created something by your own self. The benefits of crafting can also include ability to express ones emotions. It can be difficult for some people to talk about issues, but through making thing, they can express their feelings.
Joining a local group or an online crafting group can help with motivation, reduce isolation and loneliness. Going to a group as part of your weekly routine means, you get to socialise, get fresh air and be around people of likeminds. These leads to positive psychological functioning and can also improve life satisfaction.
If you have not already done so, this is the best time to get crafting. Choose a craft or try several to see which one you enjoyed the most and keep at it.
Happy crafting!!!
